Speech & Hearing (Audiology)

The Donald R. Reed Speech & Hearing Center

The Donald R. Reed Speech & Hearing Center was founded in 1950 as a not-for-profit voluntary agency committed to helping children and adults with communication impairments. In 1996, the Center was expanded to include audiology services. The Center for Swallowing Disorders was opened as a joint program of the Center and Phelps Memorial in 1999. The Donald R. Reed Speech & Hearing Center formally merged with Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in 2001.

Located in the medical building on the grounds of Phelps Memorial Hospital, the Center provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, individualized therapy programs, and family/patient education relative to the communication disorder. Television monitors are available for observation of therapy sessions by parents/caregivers to facilitate home practice.

Accreditation: All services are provided by New York State licensed and ASHA certified speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

Community Service: The Center provides Preschool Speech & Language Screening and Education Programs as well as Continuing Education Programs for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and related professionals.

Referrals for speech, hearing, or swallowing services should be made by a physician. All candidates for hearing aids must have medical clearance prior to testing. Referrals can be made by calling (914) 366-3010.
