New Contract Agreement With Empire

Empire Insurance - A Message to Phelps Patients

After a four-month ordeal, the Stellaris hospitals have reached an agreement with Empire Blue Cross for new rates in a multi-year contract, effective August 1, 2010.

This means that all the Stellaris Health hospitals including: Lawrence Hospital Center, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, Northern Westchester Hospital Center, and White Plains Hospital Center are back in the Empire network.

You can now start scheduling any surgeries, procedures, or other visits you may have delayed during negotiations.
There is no need to wait any longer - your care with our hospitals and physicians will now be covered by your Empire insurance.

Thank you for your support and patience.

The negotiations have been so difficult that at times it seemed that Empire preferred to keep the Stellaris hospitals out-of-network. Yet thousands of people in the community made it clear that it was important for Phelps Memorial Hospital Center to be in-network. Fortunately, both sides compromised to reach a fair agreement.

The negotiations were never about our "winning" or forcing Empire to pay anything more than a fair rate. We apologize for the inconvenience and difficulty that our community experienced. If we could have reached an agreement earlier, we would have. Our objective was to negotiate a contract that would provide our financial stability and ensure that the Stellaris hospitals would remain vital resources for their communities.

Thank you for your support. This would not have been possible without the help of our community. We're grateful that we can finally put these negotiations behind us and focus on what we do best - provide care for our patients.
