January 3, 2006

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center has announced a  $50,000 donation from Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. of Valhalla, NY, for the Hospital’s campaign to construct a new Emergency Department.

“Fujifilm is committed to supporting programs designed to improve the quality of life for our employees, their families, the local community and society at large. We are pleased to contribute to the campaign for construction of this vitally important facility at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center,” said Stanley E. Freimuth, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Fujifilm.

The new 18,000-square-foot Emergency Department will be nearly three times larger than the present department. With 30 private rooms, the emphasis will be on patients’ physical and emotional comfort and will feature state-of-the-art medical technology. Construction of the new Emergency Department is expected to be completed by the end of April 2008. So far, the campaign has raised more than $11 million.

“It is wonderful that a major corporation headquartered in Phelps’ service area is supporting their community hospital, helping us build a world class emergency department that will serve the entire community,” said Keith Safian, Phelps President & CEO. “This kind of corporate support is a critical element in Phelps’ meeting the needs of both the business community and the residents of our area. We are also pleased that Phelps’ Business Health Services has had the opportunity to provide healthcare to Fujifilm employees, such as vaccinations and executive physicals.”

“Fujifilm’s donation will help us to build our new emergency department, which has been designed to provide extraordinary comfort and convenience for our patients,” said Emil Nigro, MD, Director of Emergency Medicine at Phelps. “Their generous support will also enable us to purchase the state-of-the-art technology that is required today to ensure the best possible care for our community.”

In 2004 the Emergency Department at Phelps provided care to more than 22,000 patients. It is projected that in the next 10 to 15 years 44,000 patients will visit Phelps’ emergency room.
